The South Adelaide Basketball Club (SABC) was formed in 1952 when the West Rover Men’s and Charles Birks Men’s Basketball Club amalgamated. The newly formed SABC then became one of the foundation clubs in South Australia's basketball sport.
In the early years of basketball, the club has had much success with men's and women's senior and junior teams. The Men’s ABA team has won many premiership flags, the most recent coming in the 2022 NBL1 Central Season.
SABC still holds the Australian basketball record for 51 straight wins, set in 1965. It has developed many champions who have proudly represented South Adelaide and gone on to represent Australia in the modern Olympics.
The objectives of SABC are
- Develop basketball within Marion and surrounding areas
- Provide the opportunity and pathway for district players to achieve success beyond district basketball
- Create the opportunity for players of all ages and abilities to play basketball
- Maintain strong, sustainable financial viability
SABC currently has 70 district and 88 domestic teams and is the largest junior club in South Australia, with over 4,000 active members
SABC has a long and successful past and looks forward to an even more rewarding future.
